Raritan is a lovely tree-lined community of single and double-family homes covering 2.1 square miles. It is rich in history.
The tavern at the corner of Glaser Avenue & Granetz Place was built in 1734 and served as the first meeting place for area colonists.
The property was purchased by Gen. Frelinghuysen as a home for his son and was deeded in 1970 to Raritan by the family for use as a library and museum. It is a National Historic Site along with the Raritan train station.
Raritan gave its all to the WW1 effort and the self-sacrifice of the people was acknowledged by the launching in 1920 of the S.S. Natirar (Raritan spelled backwards).
