Hillsborough Township. 3 5 miles west of New York, 20 miles from Trenton and 45 miles from Philadelphia, is the largest municipality in Somerset County, covering 54.7 square miles
Hillsborough and the surrounding area were first explored by the Dutch in the middle of the 17th century. Evidence exists of two Indian settlements of the Lenni-Lenape tribe. The Indians began moving from the area in the late 1600's as the European settlers arrived.
The Township is a collection of small villages: Neshanic, South Branch, Flagtown, Belle Mead, Blackwell's Mills and the town center of Hillsborough
